Where to Live in Winnipeg if You Love Sports
July 23, 2019 | Posted by: Ron Chan
Every once in a while we like to weigh in with a unique take on where to buy a home in Winnipeg. After all, as the city’s premier mortgage broker, we have some insight on the matter.
So what’s unique about today’s piece? It has been sparked by the recent success (at press) of our city’s CFL football team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who are currently enjoying undefeated status. Whether or not they end up as Grey Cup champs (very likely) is beside the point though, as the fan base here is feverous no matter what, with interest in Winnipeg area sports at an all time high.
If you consider your household to be one that spends a big bulk of their entertainment and leisure time invested in sports, then why not take the “live, work, play” real estate concept to heart and find a home near the city’s sports hubs? The energy in these mixed residential and commercial communities is unmatched and even if you don’t have tickets to the “big game” you’ll feel like you’re in a perpetual tailgate party though all the main seasons. Sound like a plan? Let’s take a look at your options.
Three Areas in Winnipeg Sports Fans Should Consider for Their Next Mortgage
Near Investor’s Group Field (and University of Manitoba Campus)
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, soon-to-be Grey Cup Champions, stadium is Investor’s Group Field, which is located on the University of Manitoba’s main campus in the Fort Garry neighborhood of southern Winnipeg. Right away you can see that not only is this region perfect for sports fans, but families too. You also gain easy access to the CFL team’s at-home schedule, along with UM’s Bisons football and basketball games which extends your fandom into an all year long affair. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in Fort Garry, you may find your dream mortgage in nearby Montcalm, Agassiz, Waverly Heights, Fairfield Park, and Fort Richmond.
Near Bell MTS Place
Bell MTS Place arena is home to our NHL team, the Winnipeg Jets, along with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, which makes this a dream location for hockey fan households. Given its address in downtown Winnipeg, there is no shortage of family friendly sports bar & grills and other places to catch the game or event after work and on the weekends. All of this can be found within a short walk from your downtown condo at Waterfront Drive, Assiniboine Avenue, and beyond. Bell MTS Place is also within walking distance of the Exchange District, Winnipeg’s new tech center which is attracting interest from young professionals and others seeking a wise residential investment.
Near the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame
This is another downtown gem for sports fans seeking a convenient place to live. A residential address near the facility keep you connected to the rich sports history of our province, but will afford you access to some great places to get your household in shape for its own athletic endeavors. Imagine stepping outside of your condo to jog along Waterfront Drive, or kayak along the Red River? With the Hall of Fame located near the Exchange District, buyers can consider condominiums there, or anywhere downtown, or even just across the river in North St Bonafice where single family homes become available from time to time.
